Strategic Communications Specialist

About the Role:
As a Strategic Communications Specialist, you will support external-facing communications, stakeholder messaging, and engagement materials for a nationwide public safety broadband program. This role focuses on developing clear, consistent communications products that support outreach, advocacy, and strategic initiatives across multiple call order areas. You will work closely with program leadership, engagement teams, and subject matter experts to translate complex program activities into accessible, audience-appropriate communications for public safety stakeholders and external partners.
Key Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Develop and support external communications products, including stakeholder updates, outreach materials, fact sheets, and messaging briefs
Draft and edit written communications for public safety audiences, government stakeholders, and partner organizations
Support development of communications strategies aligned with program priorities, initiatives, and engagement objectives
Create content for presentations, webinars, workshops, and external engagement events
Ensure messaging is consistent, accurate, and aligned with approved program communications guidance
Collaborate with Program Managers, Engagement Specialists, and Training/Curriculum leads to tailor communications for different stakeholder groups
Support preparation of executive-ready talking points, briefing decks, and stakeholder summaries
Incorporate feedback from leadership and stakeholders to refine communications products
Maintain organization and version control of communications materials

Location:
You will work as part of a primarily remote team, with occasional in-person meetings at headquarters locations in Washington, DC; Reston, VA; Arlington, VA; or Boulder, CO.
Required Experience/Skills:
Bachelor’s degree
5+ years of relevant professional experience in strategic communications, stakeholder engagement, public affairs support, or external communications
Demonstrated experience developing communications products for government or public-sector audiences
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex topics into clear messaging
Experience supporting external stakeholder outreach, engagement events, or communications campaigns
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deliverables in a deadline-driven environment
US citizenship or permanent resident and the ability to pass public trust clearance or suitability
Preferred Experience/Skills:
Experience supporting public safety, emergency response, or communications-focused programs
Familiarity with external communications in a regulated or government environment
Experience developing materials for senior leadership briefings and stakeholder-facing engagements
Experience coordinating communications across multidisciplinary teams
